Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about working with Rendered.
For Nonprofits
How can quality be good at these prices?
Our talent accepts lower rates because they want meaningful work—not because they're less skilled. We work with professionals between jobs who need income but also want purpose, and senior people later in careers who want to contribute. Both groups have real credentials from real employers. We verify backgrounds and conduct screening calls. We don't accept everyone.
What if the work isn't good enough?
Your payment sits in escrow until you approve the work. You don't release funds until you're satisfied. If something isn't right, you can request revisions or escalate to us for mediation. Professionals who consistently underdeliver are removed from the platform.
What kinds of projects can I post?
Anything requiring professional skills: strategy, technology, design, marketing, operations. Website builds, CRM implementations, strategic plans, brand refreshes, marketing campaigns, data projects, research, and more. If you're not sure whether your project fits, contact us.
How long do projects typically take?
It depends on scope. A small project (logo design, basic website updates) might be 20-30 hours over 2-3 weeks. A larger project (full website rebuild, strategic plan) might be 80-120 hours over 6-8 weeks. You'll agree timeline with your matched professional before committing.
Is there a minimum project size?
We recommend projects of at least £500 / 20 hours. Smaller projects often have disproportionate coordination overhead. For quick tasks, we may offer different solutions in future.
Can I hire someone permanently after a project?
Yes, though we ask that you wait until the initial project is complete and pay a one-time introduction fee. Details on request.
For Talent
How much will I actually earn?
You receive 80% of the published rate. Strategy: £24/hr. Technology: £20/hr. Design/Marketing: £16/hr. Operations: £12/hr. Not commercial rates—but meaningful compensation for meaningful work.
How much time do I need to commit?
It's flexible. Some people do 5-10 hours per week. Some take on intensive short-term projects. Some pause for months between engagements. You control what you take on.
What if I get a full-time job?
Congratulations! Finish any committed projects, then pause your profile. Many people return later when circumstances change.
What's the vetting process like?
Light-touch but real. We review your LinkedIn, verify recent employment where relevant, and have a brief screening call (15-20 minutes). We're looking for genuine experience and genuine interest in nonprofit work—not trick questions.
What if a nonprofit client is difficult?
This is a professional engagement—you can push back, escalate issues, and expect reasonable treatment. If a client is genuinely problematic, we'll mediate. Persistent bad actors are removed from the platform.
Can I choose which organisations I work with?
Yes. You browse available projects and apply to ones that interest you. You can filter by cause area, time commitment, and type of work. You're never assigned to projects automatically.
About the Platform
How is this different from volunteering platforms like Catchafire?
Payment. Even modest payment creates mutual accountability that volunteering lacks. When professionals get paid, they're obligated to deliver. When nonprofits pay, they're entitled to expect quality. It's a professional engagement, not a favour.
How is this different from hiring a consultant?
Price—and nothing else. You get professional-quality work at roughly 25% of consultancy rates. The work is the same; the economics are different.
Why are you transparent about rates when no one else is?
Because we think you deserve to know what you're paying before you commit. Most platforms hide pricing because it's complicated or they're embarrassed. Ours is simple and fair. Why hide it?
What's your commission?
20% of project value. This covers vetting, matching, payment processing, and platform operations. It's included in the published rates—no additional fees.
Where do you operate?
Currently focused on UK nonprofits and UK-based talent. We plan to expand to other markets once the model is proven.
